I said I heard it listening to freespeechtv.org (Stephanie Miller) and it was Malcolm Nance who said the 90% number that I repeated last week. Nance went on to say that communications will be handled by social media posts on X. Nance then said, "What can go wrong." I repeated that.
I hope I am allowed to get my news from Rachel Maddow, because tonight she showed me how wrong I was to listen to Malcolm. Musk only gutted 87% of SSA's communication personnel. I sincerely apologize for my 3% error, and Nance's 3% error.
The other stuff about everything being handled by computers instead of people was pretty much truthful.
I am still going to get my morning news from freespeechtv.org.
Oh and the people who told me that by passing the CR that our Social Security will be protected, I respectfully ask for a link for the validity of that statement.
Social Security isn't going to be privatized, it's going to be ripped apart by Krasnov/Musk.
keep a hard copy of what your benefits are because Musk is changing the SSA code and they may just disappear.
Should have taken a stand during the CR vote.

Well surprise, people are calling in and waiting for hours and being disconnected. People are going directly to the SSA offices and being turned away.
The dismantling of Social Security is on.
I wonder what can be done. We were thinking to sign up so that we get something before they potentially either change it or destroy it. I guess I will find out when we try to do that.

And, thank you gab13. I consider most of what you post to be accurate and highly reliable.

(27,701 posts)that was held by Martin O'Malley who was a former SSA commissioner. What he said in that town hall was frightening and if anyone should know what is happening under Musk it would be a former SSA commissioner.
He said it is going to take over a year for people applying for disability to get it, or not to get it. He said the way that Musk will bring down SS will be to make it not function, it will self-destruct.

(3,545 posts)The SSAs shift to Elon Musks X comes as the agency plans to cut its regional office workforce by roughly 90 percent, WIRED has learned.
The Social Security Administration will no longer be communicating with the media and the public through press releases and dear colleague letters, as it shifts its public communication exclusively to X, sources tell WIRED. The news comes amid major staffing cuts at the agency.
We are no longer planning to issue press releases or those dear colleague letters to inform the media and public about programmatic and service changes, said SSA regional commissioner Linda Kerr-Davis in a meeting with managers earlier this week. Instead, the agency will be using X to communicate to the press and the public so this will become our communication mechanism.
Previously, the agency used dear colleague letters to engage with advocacy groups and third-party organizations that help people access social security benefits. Recent letters covered everything from the agencys new identity verification procedures to updates on the accuracy of SSA death records (less than one-third of 1 percent are erroneously reported deaths that need to be corrected, the agency wrote, in contrast to what Elon Musk claims).

April 9 (Reuters) - The U.S. Social Security Administration abandoned plans to end phone services for retirees that would have started on Monday, following a growing outcry from advocates who warned that the changes could cause chaos and further strain the agency.
The agency, which pays out $1.4 trillion in benefits to 73 million Americans annually, said on Wednesday it would "allow all claim types to be completed over the telephone," from April 14, the date that the phone option was due to be cut.
Telephone remains a viable option to the public," the SSA said in an emailed statement to Reuters.
It gave no reason for the abrupt reversal. Just two weeks ago, the SSA said that starting Monday all retirees, widows and children would have to visit a field office if they were unable to verify their identity and apply for benefits online.
The SSA had estimated that canceling the phone option would prompt 75,000 to 85,000 more people per week to seek the help of a person at field offices, leading to roughly 4 million additional office visits annually.
Research released on Tuesday by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a left-leaning think tank, found that 6 million seniors live more than 46.6 miles, round trip, from a Social Security field office, highlighting the potential burden on a demographic that may struggle to file claims online.

(9,480 posts)On March 19, I sent an email to my friends with the names of 10 Republican Senators (who I deemed as reasonable). I included their D.C. and local phone numbers.
I requested that my friends call these Senators to ask them to support the Social Security Administration which we had contributed to for our entire working lives...... On February 28 on The Joe Rogan Podcast (hour 3) Elon Musk said the following: "Social Security is the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time."
I be willing to bet that Democrats from all over the country were calling Congressional Representatives. Additionally, I saw a lot of signs at the protests last weekend that had signs saying: "Keep your hands off of our Social Security." Also, I'd read that Republicans Senators and House Members had been hearing from their constituents about this horrible situation (eliminating and/or drastically reducing the phone staff with Social Security).
