China says US stands to become 'a joke in the history of the world economy'

Singapore: Beijing has declared that the Chinese market for US exports has been destroyed by the spiralling trade feud between the world’s two biggest economies, as it hiked its tariffs on American goods to 125 per cent in retaliation for President Donald Trump’s duties.

China’s Finance Ministry said Beijing would no longer go tit-for-tat with the Trump administration in the tariff war, saying further increases would have “no economic significance” and the United States stood to “become a joke in the history of the world economy”.

“Under the current tariff level, there is no possibility of market acceptance for American goods exported to China,” the Finance Ministry said in a statement announcing the latest increase.

However, Beijing also kept the door open to imposing other punitive trade measures on America – such as adding more America companies to trade blacklists and tightening export controls – in a sign that neither side yet sees an off-ramp to the escalation.

China (its elites) is a criminal-gang nation that steals IP wantonly; thumbs its nose at the WTO, but feels free to use it against countries that do follow the rules. And Bill Clinton can rot in hell for pushing so hard to grant the communists "most favoured nation" trading status on the naïvest of beliefs that doing business with them will turn them into a liberal democracy.

DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THE MOB.

(And I give it a week until progressive Democrats start changing their profile avatars to 🇨🇳 in solidarity of stop being mean to Red China!)

To break Western companies addiction to near slave labour the Chinese provide, and for everyone to drop this, "Yeah, Red China is a cheater and a thief and all-around bad-faith actor, but whaddya gonna do? We just have to let ourselves keep being robbed."

F the CCP!

On the construction jobs I worked on, if the material wasn’t union made, we’d just send it back. That was in the late 80’s when we still made some things here. I’d say within 5 years that was no longer an option. We just had to take whatever crap showed on the dock. Invariably Chinese, invariably garbage.

That’s what Reagan did to us. That’s what NAFTA did to us. And the ironic thing is that the people who were hurt the most are the ones who voted for it.

The question becomes, without all the Chinese garbage in the market, what fills the void? We’ve demolished 90% of our factories or turned them into condos or microbreweries. We don’t make things here anymore. And few people want to pay higher prices for domestically produced items if we did.

I agree that China is a bad actor and an enemy but how do we get out of this hole we’ve put ourselves into?

Oh, and

That’s what Reagan did to us. That’s what [Clinton] did to us.

Never forget who pushed NAFTA through on us. And who relentlessly fought for Red China to be allowed into the WTO and for us to give China most favoured nation trading status.

But yes, Clinton decided to push it through despite the objections of the people who voted for him.

Clinton continued Reaganism and turned the Democrats against their long time relationship with labor. He did some good things but I think he also did a lot of damage. I realize he’s loved by many around here but the facts are facts.
