Regarding the major law firms that have caved
to the demands of Crumb The 1st. Make no mistake that this is the definition of selling out. But on this same subject I would point out to people a very true fact about ethics and ethical standards.
Throughout my long life I have witnessed much in life. I can say categorically that different professions have different proportions of various types of people practicing in those professions. When it comes to the general subject of ethics and ethical conduct I have found that there are those who by their character are ethical people. Then there are those who may not be particularly ethical in their character but they will accept standards and do their best to be within those rules.
The first two groups generally reflect true professional conduct and can be generally relied upon to fight for the rule of law as a bedrock principle of our society.
Then there is the group that is not very ethical in their character and they tend to look at ethical standards/rules as something to "get around". They will generally be found on the borderline of professional conduct and be the subject of warnings during proceedings and perhaps getting their fingers whacked hard a few times. Then there are those who have a severe lack of moral character and who use their education to do things that violate ethical standards as a matter of their normal way of conducting themselves and you'll find this applies to their personal lives and general community conduct as well.
These last two groups are the ones who sell out for position and financial gain. Their conduct in their communities is typically transactional on their part and they act, for example, not to feed the hungry because it is the right thing to do but rather because they want to be "seen" doing it so that it gets them recognition or furtherance of position, connections, financial gain etc. down the road. AKA padding the resume, all for show etc. The last of the groups I mentioned will in fact be the ones who tend to rise to power in these professions due to their ruthlessness and focus on obtaining that power at all costs. AKA selling their souls along with selling out their profession, their colleagues and clients.
You can guess in which groups the ones are who make the decisions to cave to Crumb The 1st. The world should have general praise and high regard for lawyers in those first two groups. The last two groups are a cancer on the body of society, their profession and the rule of law principle.
