US fires Greenland military base chief for 'undermining' Vance

The head of the US military base in Greenland has been fired after she reportedly sent an email distancing herself from Vice-President JD Vance's criticism of Denmark.

The US military's Space Operations Command said Col Susannah Meyers had been removed from her role at Pituffik Space Base due to a "loss of confidence in her ability to lead".

Last month, Vance said Denmark had "not done a good job" for Greenlanders and had not spent enough on security while visiting the Danish territory.

The alleged email, released by a military news site, told staff Vance's comments were "not reflective" of the base. A Pentagon spokesman cited the article, saying "undermining" US leadership was not tolerated.

in the US. I guess when you're dealing with lying megalomaniacal narcissists like trump those traits can drown out American upbringing and teachings of democracy.

It sure seemed to happen with trump. Vance is just mean hillbilly who got out and never looked back except for writing a condescending book about it.

He's just a mean bastard who I suspect knows very well he's next in line fo the presidency and feints being very loyal and aligned twith trump, but who is also intently studies him for signs of incapacitation which would require an invoking of the 25th Amendment.

Vance is not just a mean bastard, he's also an ambitious, untrustworthy one.

that her base (a United States Command), does not represent the views of the current Administration. Anyone who's spent a day in uniform knows this. She was out of line and her firing was justified.

And no, two wrongs don't make a right. Pointing out how despicable Trump's/Vance's comments and policies are does not excuse this level of insubordination. Colonels run places like Junta-era Argentina -- not the U.S..

Presidents, Obama, Clinton and Carter ALL fired senior officers who did this.
