(39,627 posts)They dont just get sent out willy-nilly. Theres a whole infrastructure to take care of that. They have spent so much time badmouthing anything government they cant believe it actually works. When it works like a well oiled machine. They have to repeat the lies to prove that they are in the cult

(1,151 posts)A number of years ago my small town was under eminent threat of a major flood. Two FEMA engineers appeared to help out. Within hours they had hired my business and several other local businesses to provide support services. These two men knew what needed to be done and how to make it happen. In just a few short days a massive levee appeared out of nowhere to protect the city. FEMA provided the management and funds and local contractors provided material and labor. The float passed without any damage.
It was an amazing display of professionalism and dedication on the part of public servants.

(19,693 posts)I think that the sad fact of our peoples outrage against FEMA when they are going into help during catastrophes is being created and amplified by malign forces in and out of government, foreign and domestic like they say.
It was hard to watch it happen here in Hawaii with the Maui fires, and shocking to hear people that I know here refer to FEMA in efforts in the south during storms as a threat to the people rather than a blessing. I dont know how we heal from this, but we all have to help and Ill what I can, one on one.

(5,393 posts)of civil servants who treat everything they do, and each client they interact with in exactly the same way. Having been a civil servant for over 20 years, and with the wide circle of friends I had there, it just really jacked my jaws to hear trump, the magas, and others talk down about them. I never met even one that fit the stereotype trump was trying to pawn off on us. We've been among the hardest working, most sincere people one could hope to do business with. And if you ever found yourself in a mess, and on the phone with a civil servant trying to get it cleaned up, these were the people you hoped you'd get. Once they get started on a problem, they don't let go until it's solved. The only BAD civil servants are those who don't think they're civil servants... they think they're the jester's assistants and pledge loyalty not to the constitution and the people whom they serve, but only to trump. IOW, now it's everybody in the government who wasn't there five years ago. And I feel so bad for those CS who are still working. I'm glad they still have their jobs, but feel bad for the do-more-with-less pressure, bad-mouthing, demeaning tasks, and the constant worry of if your job will still be here tomorrow. That's no way that anyone should have to live.

(50,080 posts)These people have no idea how the rest of the world lives. They live in their own exclusive world, looking down on those less fortunate than they are. They blame the poor for their poverty and the sick for their illnesses.
Alas lady do not forget that 'there but for fortune go you or I'.

(4,100 posts)about this program until informed by a family member. When I called SSA to inquire, they even stuck it to me by saying, "Yes, you qualify as long as you didn't kill him." We hadn't gotten child support before.

(20,218 posts)Instead of being shunned, evil liar Jeanine is getting paid to go on TV and spew lies, including talking over someone who is trying to offer a factual correction.
Nice work, I guess, if you can get it and are evil enough to do it without choking on your own bile!

(4,804 posts)In the 1970s, Social Security sent my mom $325 a month to provide for my Mom, my brother, and myself. I was lucky enough to have SS continue as I went to college, up to age 22. I also got $45 a month in Veterans survivor benefits.
That is what it was supposed to do. I understand they no longer help during college. They cut you off now at 18. That was a cut by Ronald Reagan.

(150,875 posts)and same age. Since my dad worked for the federal government, we also got survivor's annuity. The nuisance was having to file individual income tax forms for me and my siblings in addition to my mom. She was was able to get a helpful OPM service rep to tell her how to divide it up (because it was all one check in her name for each income source) to file the taxes, including attaching a copy a statement that I think may have been in the instructions that referenced about separating out each recipient's amount.
And yes, Raygun cut it off when it used to go up to age 22 (if in college).
And that was back when having a SS number was not required for children (now it is). But in order to get those benefits, we HAD to get one (and I still have my originals with my 12-year old "signature" (in quotes )). I actually brought one of the original cards with me a couple years ago when I got my Real ID since the requirements claimed they wanted "the original" - I told the DMV guy - sorry but that is how I signed when I was 12 and we both laughed.

(1,745 posts)A commentator on Fox, former judge with her own tv show, and wonderfully parodied by Cecily Strong on SNL. She is a truly hateful person.
What about the SS benefits for all the innocent kids whose dumbass parents bought into the whole anti-vaxxer mentality, democrat hoax, bleach up the ass, hydroxychloroquine, Ivermectin, and other Trump misinformation that resulted in hundred of thousands of deaths (including Herman Cain)?
I think they deserve double benefits because of the misinformation from their own government.

(10,041 posts)... the woman trying to inject the fact that there are children receiving benefits of a deceased parent, is not speaking clearly. She is talked over by the cultist.
I have a Republican cousin who was dead set on invading Iraq and eventually worked hard enough to retire with a million dollars. Not sure where those dollars are now. He didn't understand how social security and Medicare function. Not enough time in right wing news to teach truth.

(8,656 posts)50 years ago. 1975. He was a vet because he was born in 1932. He was 42 years old and Social Security survivor benefits kept us in our home, in school and my Mom was able to continue working. She got her GED in 1977 and got a day shift job at the factory she worked at and was a union member. They were gods angels for my Mother. I had two teen brothers, one older, one younger and we got those survivors benefits and it saved our life after my fathers heart failed. The grief broke our family but the government helped keep us alive. Which is exactly what we have a government for!

But DO lecture those little children "Judge" for taking advantage of the Social Security system by receiving benefits they are legally entitled to.
