Oregon says it will refuse to comply with Trump's DEI order on public schools

https://www.oregonlive.com/education/2025/04/oregon-says-it-will-refuse-to-comply-with-trumps-dei-order-on-public-schools.html

Oregon’s state schools chief said Thursday that the state will not comply with the Trump administration’s ultimatum to shut down diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in its public schools or risk losing federal funding.

“There is no circumstance where it is okay to leverage children’s resources as a political tool,” Charlene Williams wrote in her response to the demand from federal education officials, sent to school leaders nationwide last week. “Oregonians paid for and deserve those federal investments.”

Oregon believes it is already in compliance with federal law that prohibits discrimination based on race, color or national origin and has repeatedly certified that to the U.S. Department of Education, including in 2023 and 2024, Williams wrote. In addition, if the Trump administration wishes to change rules around equity and inclusion, it would need to go through required rule-making processes, she wrote.

In her letter, she called the administration’s requests “duplicative, unnecessary and unduly burdensome” and questioned both the federal government’s authority to issue such demands and its lack of clarity about which specific programs and activities it believes are out of line.

Oregon is showing true courage by telling the Been A Dick Donald criminal org to go fuck themselves and won't stand for blackmail.

Many cfompanies and organizations are just going forward the same as always on DEI, they're just not announcing it, or thyey're paying lip service to it with no real changes.

If people are quiet about opposition then that's handing the fascists an unearned victory. DO NOT COMPLY IN ADVANCE!

There are people who stand tall and speak out even if they think they are the only voice. Then there are people who feel the same way, but are uncomfortable with seeming to be the lone voice of dissent.

Courage is contagious.

The “Word of the Day” all the way to the Democratic inauguration is “RESIST”.

“RESIST!”

Or “RESIST, DAMMIT!!”

The second one is what comes to mind first, at least for me.

that other entities can also tell Emperor Fatfuk to go take a flying leap -- and still survive. I believe the saying goes something like "for evil to prosper, it takes good men to do nothing."

Let it be known. Shout it from the rooftops, Oregon. Good on ya.

...a current political phenomenon which is sometimes called "soft secession". The cultural divide between the states has led several of them to go their own way when it comes to the interminable Kulturkampf waged by the far right. Trump and the MAGA chuds continue to widen this existing divide, of course.

We're already beginning to see the early signs of "soft secession" in this country. It's been occurring for the past few years at least, and arguably much longer. It started with things like sanctuary cities, ignoring FDA scheduling of cannabis, the devolution of abortion law to the states, and other similar movements over the last 20 years or so. And the ties that bind were further stressed by the Trump regime's disastrous mismanagement of Covid...I really wonder what the country is going to look like in another 20 years.

at standing up to. We might lose our federal funding and if we have fires thank god WA and CA will help, I bet even Canada will help those fires since we always help them.

finally, someone standing up to Trumnp's definition of DEI = discrimination against white men & boys. That is literally why they want DEI programs eliminated - because it discriminate against white males.
