'Living under dictatorship': Historian says Fox News just hit 'outright North Korean' low

Vanderbilt University historian Nicole Hemmer believes that Fox News has hit a new low in its coverage of President Donald Trump's global trade war.

In an interview with The New Republic's Greg Sargent, Hemmer marvels at the way Fox News spun Trump backing off his most extreme tariffs as a four-dimensional chess move rather than a panic move that came in reaction to turmoil in bond markets.

"It is fascinating to see Fox move from state TV to outright North Korean television," she said. "At this point, they’re just chasing whatever Trump does and trying to provide cover as much as possible. When the tariffs were in place, they were his manly tariffs, People were going to feel pain, but they were going to get better afterward. And now that the tariffs have been changed—not removed, but changed—it is this celebration of 'the art of the deal.'"

...check out ONAN...er...OANN. In my part of the country, OANN has been buying time on really marginal low-power over-the-air TV subchannels to run their "OAN Plus" programming. "OAN Plus" appears to be an extended loop (several hours long) of show excerpts that runs all day long. It's basically an infomercial to get Trump fans to sign up for the pay-TV version of OANN. The MAGA chuds apparently need to have their POV reinforced on a 24-7 basis, and that need is so great that they will part with their hard-earned money in order to do so. Not even the USSR or North Korea could accomplish such a feat!

...that's probably "OAN Plus", which is a really long (several hours) infomercial to get MAGA chuds to shell out their hard-earned money in order to be propagandized on a level previously only seen in places like North Korea and the USSR. The idea is to get them to buy the pay-TV version of OAN. (Eventually capitalism found a way to make money off state propaganda...who knew?).

By the way, OAN got a bit of a boost when Trump started telling his MAGA chuds to abandon Fox "News" and start watching OANN, NewsMax, etc. (Trump got pissed off about Fox calling AZ for Biden in the 2020 election, which was correct, of course).

I doubt OAN is airing their entire broadcast day free of charge on an over-the-air station. They're broke, not only because they lost their main cable TV sponsor (see the article I linked from the Boston Herald), but also because--last I heard--they are being sued by the voting machine companies for defamation (just like Fox and NewsMax). Fox ended up paying something like $800M and fired a couple of its "stars" that were responsible for that lawsuit. As the kids say, fuck around and find out.

One could say it is part of their business model. After all, Wall Street crooks do something similar; they break laws and pay fines.

As long as they keep out of jail, they can well afford the fines.

brainwashing at the highest level.

Unfortunately they are very good at the execution of a this mind control cocktail.

The rapt viewers are there for a reason. They come from a place of grievance. They crave the lies.

It is one of the elements of this twilight zone series that causes me some of the greatest angst.
