She is making a statement as to why she voted for it saying she doesn't support non-citizens voting. That is not a problem and if she thinks it is then she could have voted against it and just put out the statement saying the same damn thing!

She goes on about several issues she has with the bill and then pushes her plan.

Am I misreading it?

I volunteer on voting rights/voter protection efforts. Non-citizens do not vote

The House GOP majority passed a ban on noncitizen voting, which (a) almost never happens; and (b) is already illegal. It’s worth understanding why.
https://bsky.app/profile/stevebenen.com/post/3lmiblspuhc2h

The SAVE Act would:
- make it harder for Americans to vote
- address a problem that doesn't exist
- impose new burdens on state election administrators

House Republicans passed it anyway.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/house-republicans-pass-act-solution-search-problem-rcna200681

The GOP duo pitched legislation that would require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote. The absurdity of watching two notorious election deniers pretend to be deeply concerned with the integrity of elections was a detail the political world was apparently supposed to overlook.

Soon after, House Republicans followed through, introducing the “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act” (or “SAVE Act”). As NBC News reported, that same bill has now passed the chamber.

The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, would amend the National Voter Registration Act so that states would be required to obtain proof of citizenship in person from people who are registering to vote. It would also require states to establish a program to remove undocumented immigrants from existing voter rolls and would allow American citizens to sue election officials that don’t follow proof of citizenship requirements.

The measure cleared the chamber on a 220-208 vote, with four Democrats — Reps. Ed Case of Hawaii; Henry Cuellar of Texas; Jared Golden of Maine; and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington — voting with the majority. No GOP members opposed the bill.

The principal concern with the legislation is that it’s a solution in search of a problem. To hear Republicans tell it, policymakers must prevent noncitizens from voting, which probably sounds reasonable. In fact, it’s so reasonable that the SAVE Act is redundant: There are literally zero locations in the United States where noncitizens can vote in federal and/or state elections.

GOP lawmakers have also argued that legislation is needed to curtail the scourge of noncitizens who are already voting. Except, Republicans have gone searching for evidence of this problem and found effectively nothing.....

What’s more, as The Associated Press reported last month, state elections officials — from both parties — have expressed practical concerns about how these costly proposed procedures would be implemented and paid for. The same article added, “Voting rights groups have said married women who have changed their name could have trouble registering under the SAVE Act because their birth certificate lists their maiden name.”....

The bill now heads to the Senate, where Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah is championing a companion bill. The odds of the legislation overcoming a Democratic filibuster, however, are poor. Watch this space.

During the Texas voter id litigation back in 2012, Greg Abbott as AG argued that non-citizens were voting but could provide no evidence of this because non-citizens are too scared to break the law by voting

What "we" need is to find more of these sorts of candidates to attract conservative voters and run in "conservative areas," you know, like metro Honolulu.

So far, outside of AOC and Bernie, I'm not. They're not enough, and have significant opposition in the Party establishment and here on DU (in case you haven't noticed).

The rallies have more people and are filled with positive energy. I think people would rather interact with something like that in the real world then deal with a handful of people on a message board with nothing positive to say about either Bernie or AOC. You're right though they do have significant opposition in the party establishment

Too soon to be looking at 2028 but I think Democrats should be looking at the type of candidates that also have appeal in rural & red areas like AOC & Bernie.

This is just another example of the GOP's decades long war on voting. With all the voter suppression that has occurred Democrats odds of winning elections go down.

We should be actually making voting easier to counter their voter suppression tactics.

I recognize and agree that the Democratic Party is the Big Tent Party.

Our party is the only party advocating for sustaining our representative democracy and the freedoms that are the result of reasoned equitable democracy.

Disenfranchising vast swaths of our voting populace is light years away from anything I would attribute to a "Centrist".

Disenfranchising vast swaths of our voting populace falls directly under my definition of abject moral depravity.

It's sickening to me to see those that we've supported turn against our party, our populace, deprive us of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

That is what I clearly see here.

For one party rule. In disbelief any Democrat would vote for this crap and of course the Republicans hate Democracy as it is and now that they have power, they surely mean to never relinquish it.

I suppose the Maggots out there think that the fascism won't impact them, because fascists to them are only about deporting M13 people, banning trans people and owning the Libs....ahh, but I have some bad news for you people.
