(13,394 posts)He calls out Trump's absolute LIES about the tariff rates other countries have imposed on the US and provides the actual tariff rates as well as an analysis of the damage this will do to the US consumers as well as to the rest of the world.

(14,151 posts)Trump doesn't know what a trade deficit is, or he is lying.
He has been lying about these 2 things for over 10 years !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The media and our party should have been shouting this from the rooftop everyday for the last 10 years.
Our party should have held press conferences everyday.
Biden should have given speeches at night during prime time.
It should have been talked about and explained over and over.

(14,100 posts)They are tool for EXTORTION. Corporations will come begging for relief, which will be granted IF they pledge loyalty and bow to his political demands.
Nice looking business you got there. You can keep it if you kiss the ring of the MOB BOSS.
He is applying this same extortion to other countries. A few small ones might cave, but I think Canada and Western Europe will tell him to go pound sand.
This will be a disaster for the world economy, but especially for the United States which will be increasingly isolated.
Unless Trump has correctly calculated the strength of the cards he's holding, which I highly doubt.

(14,151 posts)You knew it, I knew it, a lot of people knew it.
Why did he get by with lying about tariffs and trade deficits for over 10 years ???
That was my question.

The Republican Party, financed by oligarchs, have long wanted to destroy any part of the government which required taxation and regulation. They have been thwarted for generations to eliminate the social safety net and agencies like the EPA through normal legislative means, because those entities generally have public support.
Republicans in Congress see Trump for what he is, but they also see a once in a lifetime opportunity to achieve their ideoligical and corporate goals. Billionaires can weather the coming recession, and they don't give a damn about the voters who gave Trump the throne.
The religious right sees their best opportunity to enforce their own narrow minded version of Christianity on the country.
White supremicists and bigots of every stripe who felt oppressed during decades of progress in racial and gender civil rights feel liberated to once again express their hatred, and they love Trump for it.
The vast majority of Trump voters will be badly hurt by his regime, but they were too ignorant and filled with disinformation to see it coming.
