A GOP insider torched President Donald Trump for tapping Peter Navarro to lead his administrations trade policy as the White House doubles down on its latest tariff announcement.
Marc Short, the former chief of staff to former Vice President Mike Pence, criticized Trump on Thursday for choosing Navarro to shape his economic policies. Navarro was released from federal prison last year after completing a four-month sentence for refusing to cooperate with a congressional investigation into the January 6, 2021 attack at the Capitol.
I think its not always the best idea to take somebody fresh out of jail and put them in charge of your trade policy, as Peter Navarro is right now. ... I think theres been a lot of mockery in what a sophomoric formula has actually been put in place here, Short said on CNN ...

Strings of ocean specks around the globe, including Australia's Cocos (Keeling) Islands and the Comoros off the coast of Africa, were likewise subjected to 10 percent new tariffs.
Another eye-catching inclusion in the tariffs list was Myanmar, which is digging out from an earthquake that left nearly 3,000 people dead, and whose exports to the United States will now face 44 percent in new levies.
