https://www.foxweather.com/extreme-weather/asheville-brother-wolf-shelter-saves-100-pets-helene-floodsNow comes the struggle to find more permanent housing, as the shelter would later become destroyed in the historic flood.
"Its been a really, really hard week for everyone," said Leah Craig Chumbley of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. "We're working around the clock."
The shelter cares for mostly dogs and cats, but also such pets as rabbits and guinea pigs.
"We know that when the river rises, we get some water in our building. And we really thought worst-case scenario, 6 to 12 inches," she said.
But this storm was going way beyond those levels.

(1,331 posts)I could not figure out what hell they need right now and how to give it. I am in NC. I could maybe take a pet or two, if I can get there and that is what they need. I feel frustrated I do not understand.

If you were not impacted and can provide a monetary donation, it is critical now more than ever.

(1,331 posts)I decided to start with the foster link. It said to click to show interest but the form was inaccessible to anyone not in the owners group .not sure what that means. I will just try to donate, I guess.

(10,034 posts)We lost our doggy about 4 years ago to old age and decided to adopt another one about a year later. We went to a few "rescue" shelters to adopt another and were told we were "too old" (75) to adopt. Other rescues did things like require a physical inspection of our home, measuring of fence heights, etc. before they would consider our application. So we went to a county operated shelter and adopted a dog with no problem.

(1,331 posts)But there is no way, right now, to apply to foster. I am sorry you had such a tough time after losing your little one. Glad you finally found another to add to your home.
