While I Do On Rare Occasion Have the #1 Reply Here, It Is Rare for Me to Initiate a Thread

If I am duplicating here, mea culpa.

To me it is more or less clearly a self-diagnosis than when trump invokes Hannibal Lector he is self-identifying as a homicidal psychopath. Whether he has the wherewithal to realize this is a fictional character is irrelevant. His egomania has involved all sorts of projections into realms way beyond his pathetic means, but this is one that seems very timely.

We commonly lock these folks up and invoke some serious medical intervention!

I’ve made a mean gumbo myself a time or two. No tomatoes, no potato salad.

And I used to be a therapist. There’s a huge cadre of professionals speaking out about how dangerous he is. There are rules about restricting someone who isn’t a danger to self or others but the definition of “danger” doesn’t cover a whole lot of what a malignant narcissist can do.

To arrange an inter-library loan so I could read "The Mask of Sanity" by H. Cleckley. I'm pretty certain my motive at the time was not specifically triggered by this felon, but rather observations of life in these times and this country. But by now, of course, the relevance is screaming at us. I'm surprised that book is not more widely available - republication and wide circulation is way overdue.

Cleckley then summarizes the material and provides a 'clinical profile', describing 16 behavioral characteristics of a psychopath (reduced from 21 in the first edition): [14]

2. Absence of delusions and other signs of irrational thinking
3. Absence of nervousness or psychoneurotic manifestations
4. Unreliability
5. Untruthfulness and insincerity
6. Lack of remorse and shame
7. Inadequately motivated antisocial behavior
8. Poor judgment and failure to learn by experience
9. Pathologic egocentricity and incapacity for love
10. General poverty in major affective reactions
11. Specific loss of insight
12. Unresponsiveness in general interpersonal relations
13. Fantastic and uninviting behavior with drink and sometimes without
14. Suicide threats rarely carried out
15. Sex life impersonal, trivial, and poorly integrated
16. Failure to follow any life plan.
